A Christ-Centered Way to Add Heart to Your Christmas Shoebox Gifts
Every year, our family looks forward to packing a Christmas shoebox gift. It has become one of our most cherished traditions — choosing thoughtful items, praying over the child who will receive the box, and talking about the true joy of giving. This year, we packed a box for a little girl, and the kids had so much fun helping fill it with special treasures.

Throughout the year, I keep an eye out for clearance finds and low-priced items that would make wonderful additions to a shoebox — things like hair accessories, colored pencils, small toys, school supplies, and hygiene items. Picking things up a little at a time helps us pack a full, beautiful shoebox without straining the Christmas budget.
Here are a few things we included this year:
- A Barbie doll with a soccer ball
- A recorder (musical instrument)
- A harmonica
- A package of scrunchies
- Toothbrushes
- A clay bead bracelet making kit
- A mini wet brush
- Stickers
- Ticonderoga pencils with a sharpener
- Twistable colored pencils
- A Matchbox car
- An LED flashlight
- A Hello Kitty coin purse
- Glue Sticks
- A beach ball
- A block set
- 3-Pack of journals
- Socks
- Paddle ball toy
- A reusable plastic shoebox
But one of the most meaningful items is always the handwritten letter. Kids feel such a connection knowing there’s a real child behind the box — someone who prayed for them and cared enough to send a message of hope.
That’s why I created a FREE Fill-in-the-Blank Shoebox Letter Template for your family to use this season!
